Through the previous work, I realized that the anticipate and overshoot is really important so I tried to add it in this body language practice. When this character trying to pick the ball up, I made his body lean forward first, then stretch up to a long length. It’ makes the movement of the character very active and flexible, and looks better than the works before.
I compared these two works about the animal running. I found making puppet is easier than drawing on tvp to some extent. Because sometimes it is hard to control the shape of the animal. When I draw the deer running, the head of it became bigger and bigger and the shape of legs changed as well. Also, the position of the body sometimes will move forward, the first frame can’t be linked with the last frame, it is really annoying when you want to make a cycle of it. I modified it a lot of time when I drawing and finally, I found it is necessary to set four points for its legs then I won’t lose the position of them.
I simplified the image of deer, and I marked the edge of mascles which on forelegs and hind legs. I found deer’s head is moving with its foreleg. When the foreleg stretches out, it’s head will stretch backwards, so I have to animate them separately.
Why my character looks like this
This animation exercise is about facial expression, The reason why I design this character like this is, I want to show how a person who is a little bit of fool looks like when they interested in something. But I don’t think this character is fooled but also kind of crazy(just like crazy Dave), because a normal person won’t eat it when they see something first.
Changes to my Character design
The previous one has too many bandages, at first I just want it to be cooler but it may be too complex when you animate it, so I add sleeves for her. Also, I delete some of the bandages which on her neck and leg, make it like kind of skinny cloth. She has to be covered by something because of those scars.
